Michel Prieu

Michel PrieuMichel Prieu is defined by a constant refusal to accept that inherited methods are necessarily the only possible methods. His life has been shaped by curiosity, discipline and the need to understand complete systems before attempting to improve them.
Born near the Pyrenees and formed by the world of the forge, he became an engineer specialising in mechanics, ergonomics, industrial computing and robotics. In industry, he learnt to examine the relationship between people, tools, information, safety and production. From 1980 onwards, his work on robotics and flexible manufacturing systems earned him the reputation of “Mr Productivity”. Yet his purpose was never productivity alone. He sought to improve performance while reducing dangerous and exhausting work.
He discovered golf at nearly forty. Without exceptional driving power and while carrying major professional responsibilities, he could not build his game by spending endless hours imitating an ideal swing. He therefore observed, experimented and practised for short periods with precision. Playing left-handed, he gradually constructed a movement that belonged to him and reached a strong amateur level. Golf then became another field of engineering: a living system in which the player, target, body, club, course, emotions and result continually interact.
His character combines the rigour of the engineer with the independence of the entrepreneur. He questions established habits, but he does not reject technique. He asks technique to serve a clearly understood purpose. He values evidence, yet also recognises that personal experience, philosophical conviction and scientific knowledge do not carry the same status. This distinction is central to the mature form of GE2M.
Further studies in medicine, psychology, neuroscience and positive psychology deepened his understanding of the person who acts. As a qualified positive-psychology coach, he does not seek to erase fear, doubt, frustration or failure. He helps the player receive these experiences as information, return to the present situation and recover the freedom to decide.
Michel Prieu’s central conviction is that no two players are identical. A teacher may provide knowledge, an instructor may refine movement and a team may offer support, but the player remains the creator and the person responsible for the shot. GE2M therefore begins with the GAME: observing, choosing a target, imagining a realistic trajectory, committing the body and learning from the result. The swing is not abolished; it is gradually built in the service of intention.
At the heart of his work lies a demanding form of confidence: not certainty that every shot will succeed, but confidence in one’s ability to observe, decide, act, accept and begin again. This is the character Michel Prieu brings to his books, his teaching and his ambition to make golf more accessible to young people, families, amateurs, teachers and professionals throughout the world.
